Sorry I just thought the main point of working with young people from a christian point of view would be to try and get them as involved with as many thing as possible in realtion to outreach events to give all young people a chance to hear the gospel. I´n not about stealing young people, but I believe there is one church, God´s church and we should all be working together for his glory and I believce partnerships and networking to be vital in reaching all young people.

Any ideas for other networks we can tap into to publicise it? We didn´t want to just put on a London lecture, but we clearly need to publicise this better in networks local to Leeds

That said the content of the article I found helpful. There´s nothing wrong with having a postmodern scepticism at the ´expert´, but at the same time there´s nothing wrong with having a sense of humility and recognising that other people can teach us something, whether we consider them to be our ´senior´ or not. Some of those bullet points we will use (like most of the ´goi[..]

I know it is very subjective, but I´d like to hear what you´ve liked the best either personally, or through watching your youth and what you can see has the biggest impact. Again, I know totally subjective, but just wondering what´s out there.

I´m based in brum, and would love to meet with other youth workers/pastors. However, I am a little reluctant if it becomes a chance for us to scoop up other young people for our events....It would be great to meet for mutual support, or otherwise you end up feeling a bit used!

good point Pete. I think that is a wise answer. I am reminded of the Romans 12 passage that talks about the bredth of spiritual gifts....prophet, servant, encourager etc....I guess in youth ministry, it depends on who God has called into a youth ministry context that effects what kind of ministry grows from it.

The positives of this post are that I guess, making Jesus much more central to our message, and also moving away from a youth ministry that is all about appearances and not about substance, truth and light - those are great things.

But I guess I would ask - what does any of it actually mean? Practically speaking there is nothing you can really draw from this other than the above point. Which is nice,[..]

Well, being a church, we use a few methods for keeping people up to date:

Firstly, the notice boards. Usual stuff, if something is happening it goes on a board.

Secondly, notice sheets - every week . Of course this is only helpful to church families.

Thirdly, email and the internet. We have a blog (you can find it at youth.stranton-church.org.uk) that keeps people up to date and I email members of the group weekly with what´s going on. We presume that everyone has access to the internet[..]

But you are right, I am well known for preaching a gospel of damnation. Hardly a week goes by I don´t reduce one of our young people to tears.
