Good on you for understanding you struggle in the way of continuing conversation. Takes alot to admit it from what ive seen of people.

As mentioned, open questions work very well. Anything that avoids a yes or no answer. I have found myself in a similar situation before and I played a simple game.

Think of some ´open´ questions - things that cannot be answered with one word.

So rather than ´How´s your week been?´ which could be answered ´ok´ - end of conversation - try ´What´s the best thing that´s happened this week?´. I accept someone could really be picky and say ´nothing´ - but that opens up a whole other line of questioning - like ´oh dear, sounds bad - well what was the least negative thing?´

Usually, though, people will say something like ´when I reached level 80 on WoW´ (pos[..]

Yes, they can. In Marlow we appointed just such a person as a Youth and Community Worker jointly between the four Anglican and two Methodist Churches - and he works closely with the Youth Workers at two local Community Churches. Pete´s comment that young people are denominationally blind is important. The crunch point as to whether such an appointment and project can work is the attitude of the folk - and most specially the leadership - in the sponsoring churches - and as a chur[..]

Over the past few weeks I have been thinking how i can assist others in the work I am passionate about. The only thing i could think of other than moving away was to start a website.

The website allows you to read about various bits of information in the world of youth work. Also, the site contains some session ideas that you could use in your projects.

There is not very much on there at the moment however more is being added daily so keep checking :)

In my experience yes.

In fact, not just ´yes´, but I believe youth workers can function ecumenically better than those working with adults, because the people we are working with have less of an attachment to the status quo.

It´s another area where youth work is pushing the church forward theologically.

As with other concerns above though, it´s not whether you can or whether it will work with the young people - it´s whether the people paying you have the vision!

The youth worker along with the Methodist youth worker (me) work with all the 5 denominations in the village. It is more challenging than just worki[..]

I am looking for recommendations of the best books for young people to read to encourage, equip and inspire them in following Jesus.

I am thinking 10-18 year olds, so if you could let me know what books have made an impact on your youth group that would be marvellous.
